Website Roadmap
Everything You Need to Build, Launch & Grow a Successful Website
There has never been a better time to build a website…
…and there has also never been a more confusing time.
Whether you’re starting your first business, refreshing an existing website or simply trying to understand where AI fits into web design, you’re in the right place.
I created this roadmap to take the confusion out of building a website. There’s no technical jargon, no pressure to buy anything, and no assumption that you already know how everything works.
Think of this page as your starting point. Each section introduces an important part of the journey, with links to more detailed guides if you’d like to explore further.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed…
You’re definitely not alone.
Every week I talk to Perth business owners asking exactly the same questions.
Should I use AI?
Do I need WordPress?
Should I build it myself?
What’s hosting?
Do I even need a website anymore?
This guide is my attempt to answer those questions in plain English.
This isn’t a sales pitch.
No confusing tech talk.
Just honest advice from someone who builds websites every day.
Whether you eventually become a Quicksites Perth client or not, I hope this guide helps you make better decisions for your business.

STEP 1 – Decide What You Actually Need
The biggest mistake I see isn’t choosing the wrong website platform—it’s choosing technology before deciding what your business actually needs.
Before worrying about WordPress, AI, hosting or SEO, spend a little time thinking about your goals.
Questions Worth Asking
- Who are my ideal customers?
- What do I want my website to achieve?
- What makes my business different?
- How much time do I realistically want to spend maintaining it?
- What’s my budget?
- Am I happy to do some things myself, or would I rather someone else manage everything?
STEP 2 – Build Strong Foundations
Every great website starts with solid foundations. These decisions aren’t the most exciting, but they make everything else easier later on.
Think of your website like building a house. Each part has a job.
The Land – Your Domain Name
Your domain name is your online address and often the first thing people remember about your business. A good domain should be easy to remember, easy to spell and reflect your brand.
10 Tips On How To Choose A Domain Name
You PO Box – Professional Email
A professional email address helps build trust and gives your business a more polished appearance than using a personal email account.
The Foundation – Hosting
Good hosting keeps your website fast, secure and online.
It’s one of the most overlooked parts of a website.
Choosing reliable hosting is one of the best investments you can make for your website. Good hosting improves speed, security and reliability, helping your business make a great first impression. If you’d like to understand hosting in more detail, these guides are an excellent place to start.
Cloudflare Learning Centre – What is Web Hosting?
Google Search Central – Page Experience & Core Web Vitals
The House – WordPress (for me)
WordPress powers a huge portion of the internet for good reason. It’s flexible, scalable and remains one of the best long-term choices for small business websites.
Why WordPress Is Still the Smartest Website Platform in 2025
The Interior – Divi (often)
The design system.
This is where colours, layouts and functionality come together.
Divi is one of my favourite website builders because it allows beautiful custom websites to be created quickly while remaining easy for many clients to update themselves.
WordPress & Divi 5: Why It’s Still the Best for Perth Websites
The Sign Out the Front – Your Branding
Logos.
Colours.
Typography.
Images.
Your personality.
AI can help here.
A human eye still matters.
Your logo, colours, fonts and photography all work together to create your business’s first impression. Good branding builds trust before anyone even reads your content.

STEP 3 – Build Your Website
Now we’re talking practical. With your foundations in place, it’s time to create a website that works for your customers.
What pages do you need?
Homepage
Your homepage should quickly explain who you are, what you do and why someone should choose you.
About
People like doing business with people. Your About page is often one of the most visited pages on your website and helps build trust.
Making it personal, giving an insight to who you or your company is, putting it out there so your customers can begin to make connections with you and what you are standing for is the name of the game.
In this day and age, writing the content personally rather than AI, I feel is going to go along way. People crave authentic personal connection and this is the page to elaborate on this. You may want AI to help explain yourself a bit better, or correct your punctuation and grammar, which is perfectly fine, but it is vital that you keep the essence of your voice. People are starting to see through AI written text so watch out for that.
Company history, community connections, personal goals and achievements, all great content to allow viewers to get a rounded picture of who they are getting into business with.
Services
Clearly explain what you offer, who it’s for and how it helps solve your customers’ problems.
With your services, try and be very clear. Have it structured in categories if appropriate and branch out to more detailed pages which hold more information regarding particular services, rather than overwhealm the reader by having it all on one page.
There are many great options for presenting services information these days, with many of the best website builders making it very easy to find a solution that matches the structure of your services hierachy.
Also when planning these pages, consider these…
Clear Headline: State who you help and the main result you provide right at the top.
Visual Icons or Photos: Use custom icons or real photos that match each specific service.
Proof and Trust: Add client reviews, star ratings, or logos of past clients near your service lists.
Direct Call-to-Action: Place a simple “Book a Call” or “Get a Quote” button next to every major service option.

Pricing
Great pricing page designs make choosing a plan easy by combining clarity, visual hierarchy, and strategic conversion cues. Top examples like Linear and Stripe use three to four side-by-side tiers, interactive billing toggles, highlighted popular plans, and clean feature comparison breakdowns to reduce buyer doubt.
Key Design Elements include:
- Value Headlines: Clear statement of what users gain before showing any numbers.
- Billing Toggles: Smooth switch between monthly and annual rates (with discounts shown)
- Highlighted Tiers (if applicable!): A “Most Popular” or “Recommended” badge on the core middle plan.
- Scannable Matrix: A clean feature comparison table for detailed review.
Sticky/Clear CTAs: High-contrast buttons placed directly under each tier. - Objection-Handling FAQ: Short answers addressing billing, upgrades, and refunds.

Portfolio
Showing real examples of your work builds confidence and demonstrates your experience.
A good portfolio is more than a collection of your best-looking work. Show real examples that represent the type of customers you want to attract, and give each project a little context, what the customer needed, what you did and the result. Real photographs and short customer testimonials can add valuable credibility too.
Think of each portfolio item as a mini case study. A descriptive title, useful project details and relevant location or service information can also help Google understand what you do, while giving potential customers genuine evidence of your experience.

Contact
Make it easy for people to contact you. The fewer obstacles, the more enquiries you’ll receive.
Your contact page should make it easy and comfortable for someone to take the next step.
Keep the form simple, clearly explain what happens after someone submits it, and provide alternative ways to get in touch such as phone or email. A little reassurance can make a big difference—especially for someone contacting you for the first time.
Don’t treat the contact page as an afterthought. Use a clear heading, a straightforward call to action and enough information to build confidence without overwhelming the visitor.
For a local business, including your location and relevant business details can also help both customers and Google understand where you operate.
Your contact form is also a potential entry point for spam and automated attacks, so a little protection is worthwhile. Tools such as Google reCAPTCHA can help distinguish genuine visitors from automated submissions, while keeping your form simple for real customers. For broader website protection, Cloudflare provides additional security and traffic-management tools.

Blog
A blog is one of the easiest ways to keep your website fresh while answering the questions your customers are already asking.
Useful, genuinely helpful articles can demonstrate your experience, build trust and create more opportunities for people to find your business through Google.
You don’t need to publish constantly or write about everything under the sun. A handful of useful articles that answer real customer questions is far more valuable than pumping out content for the sake of SEO.
Over time, your blog can become a growing library of knowledge that supports your website and helps potential customers make informed decisions.
