Divi 5

Hello Perth businesses, I often get inquiries from your fellow business owners regarding creating fast, affordable websites in which they would like to have ultimate control of. And the quick solution to this request is usually the Divi Builder.

Divi has been around for around a decade now and is one of the most popular WordPress platforms when creating websites that not only look great, but are responsive to all viewable screens, and customisable to absolute nth degree.

As a web designer and developer, I can’t but help feel that – it’s just too simple, anyone can use this tool to do their website – and I will most definitely relay this message to those business owners.

While nothing is ever perfect in this world, I have learnt that there are actually some downsides to Divi from that perspective as well.

The abiliy to customise every detail on a website lights up many business owner’s brain, with the thought of reducing the need for a web designer or developer to keep their site up to date and looking great.

Being able to customise everything, often by multiple ways, ends up being extremely overwhealming for the average punter. What seems like a dream, ends up being a murky, muddy, mess of a nightmare, with users without the background quickly being lost, confused and feeling way out of their depth.

Another thing that we need to watch when developing with Divi, is making sure the backend systems and plugins are streamlined as all the fancy bells and whistles take up valuable bandwidth, which equals time when your site is loading – and nobody wants a bloated site that takes forever to get onto a screen.

While Divi is a great tool for me, I honestly find it hard to use other editors now as they seem to lack quick means to achieve the design I want, I need to be very careful with how to advise clients as to how to go about editing and further designing. It is often a continued partnership. Clients edit by adding content and I tidy up when needed.

Anyway, just recently, Divi 5, the latest iteration of the platform has dropped. And it seems the team at Elegant Themes has taken feedback and understood these concepts that potentially turn website builders away from their product and towards more simplified solutions.

Divi 5 has been built from the ground up to do what I can see as two major things – make it more lightweight for loading, and simplify the actual website editing interface.

What’s New in Divi 5?

Divi 5 is finally here, and the team at Elegant Themes has listened to what frustrates users:

  1. It’s lighter and faster, improving your Core Web Vitals for SEO.
  2. It has a cleaner, easier interface so you don’t feel overwhelmed when editing your site.
  3. It works seamlessly with Rank Math or Yoast, making your SEO management much smoother.

While these are great improvements and hopefully they play out well with the test of time, it still important to rememebr that all WordPress sites need a solid foundation: good hosting, a clean plugin setup, and a clear design direction—otherwise, you’re still at risk of building a beautiful mess.

Some other really important positives to consider when going with Divi 5 WordPress sites, they allow your ownership and flexibility. You own your site. That means you can move hosts, change developers, or take control yourself. From cafes like General Public Marmion to e-commerce sites, WordPress + Divi can handle it.

Divi 5 sites are SEO-Ready, positioning your business online content structure and schema to help get found in Google’s AI Overviews and traditional search.

This is also how you can easily avoid expensive agency builds while still having a premium-tier design. If you are thinking about, or have tried, using AI or DIY platforms, it is most definitely tempting, but keep in mind if it all gets too much, WordPress paired with Divi keeps your ownership, flexibility, and SEO potential alive. Sure, AI is fast, but WordPress with Divi 5 is yours. And with an experience website developer partner, you can get your site live fast without sacrificing quality.
